One app for club news, Friday sign-ups and every player's progress.

The Deen Squad Football Academy runs Friday training for five age groups. I built the app parents use to keep up with the club, and the tools the coaches and the owner use to run it.

The problem

A lot to keep track of, for everyone

Every week the club needs to know who's coming on Friday. Every season it needs the same things for every child:

  • Emergency contacts and photo consent
  • A signed player and parent contract
  • A payment plan in place
  • News that parents have actually read

Parents needed one place for all of it. Coaches needed to see, at the gate, who still had something outstanding.

See it in use

Twelve seconds of the parent app: news, Friday sign-up, a player's progress and a gate pass.

What I built

Everything a parent needs, and what the coach sees

  1. Club news, read and ticked

Club news screen with a kit message and an I've read this button

Parents tap “I've read this”. Anything unread gets chased: an app notification first, then an email after a day.

  2. Who's coming on Friday?

Who's coming screen with Coming and Not this week buttons for each child

One tap per child. The coach sees the headcount straight away.

  3. Every player's progress

Player profile with sessions, attendance, points, stars and coach notes

Attendance, streaks, points, stars, badges and notes from the coaches.

  4. Gate pass on the phone

Gate pass screen with a QR code for one child

Each child has their own signed QR code to show at the gate.

  5. The coach's register

Coach training register with a Scan passes button and a list of children

Coaches scan passes with their phone and see who needs a word: no payment plan, no photo consent, unread news.

Key decisions

The decisions that shaped it

No passwords to forget

Parents sign in with a six-digit code by email. It works from the iPhone home screen too, where a normal sign-in link wouldn't carry across.

Each family sees only its own children

The database itself enforces it. Other parents only ever see a headcount.

Chasing without nagging

Reminders step up from an app notification to an email, with text messages ready to switch on. Nothing is sent between 9pm and 8am.

Families in, in one go

The club's list comes in from a spreadsheet with a dry-run preview first, then every family gets an email invite.

What the client says

“With hundreds of children at the club, the admin was getting on top of us. Adnan understood that straight away and found ways to automate a lot of it. Running a club our size is much easier now.”
Owner, Deen Squad Football Academy
Where it is now

Live and in use at the club.

Parents, coaches and the owner each have their own side of the app. I'm adding features with the club owner as we go.

What you can see or try

  • A 12-second video and screenshots of the parent app.
  • The app is for the club's families, coaches and owner, so signing in needs an invite.

What's next

  1. A Saturday report and a weekly challenge
  2. Automatic WhatsApp messages once the club has a WhatsApp Business account
