Website conceptFor a friend's businessConcept

A complete redesign concept for a London karak chai brand. Lead with the cup, then make buying easy.

Hai Chai sells karak chai, coffee, premixes and drinks machines from London. The owner wanted a complete revamp, so I designed and built a working concept of the new site, including its 3D product imagery.

The brief

A complete revamp

The owner wanted the website rebuilt from scratch. Hai Chai sells to people buying for home and to businesses buying in bulk, so the concept sets out to:

  • Make the product look as good as it tastes
  • Put the best sellers up front
  • Give offices, cafés and venues their own way in
  • Keep every order in the existing Hai Chai shop

It's a concept: a working site the owner can click through on a phone or a laptop.

What I designed

A walk through the concept

  1. Lead with the cup

Concept homepage: Authentic Karak Chai heading over a cup of karak and a cardamom pouch, with Explore products and Business enquiries buttons

The page opens on a video of karak chai, with the sound off until you turn it on and a button to pause the motion. Then two routes: explore the products, or make a business enquiry.

  2. Four best sellers, a tap apart

Meet your next favourite section with four best seller tabs and the Karak Cardamom panel

Karak Cardamom, Karak Masala, Premium Coffee and Plain Karak sit side by side. Each has its own picture, a short description and a from-price, and Choose options opens it in the Hai Chai shop.

  3. Its own route for businesses

Better breaks, together: a section for businesses listing wholesale mixes, drinks machines and cups, next to a drinks machine

Offices, cafés and venues get a section of their own: wholesale tea and coffee mixes, automatic drinks machines, and cups, lids and accessories. Discuss your requirements goes to Hai Chai's contact page.

  4. The story, on any screen

Good company, great chai: a short brand story, with the FAQ section starting below
The concept's opening screen on a phone

A short brand story and a few FAQs close the page. Every section is laid out for phones as well as laptops.

Key decisions

The decisions that shaped it

Lead with the product

The chai, the packs and the machines each get a big picture. The opening video can be paused, and its sound stays off unless you turn it on.

Best sellers first

Four best sellers sit side by side as tabs, each with a picture, a description and a from-price, so the popular packs are one tap away.

A separate door for businesses

Wholesale buyers have different questions, so they get their own section and go straight to Hai Chai's contact page.

Orders stay in the shop

The concept doesn't take payments. Every buy button goes to the existing Hai Chai shop.

Where it is now

A working concept, ready to try

The concept is live on Vercel, so the owner can try it on his own phone and laptop. haichai.co.uk is still the live shop, and every buy button goes there.

What you can see or try

  • A 12-second video and screenshots of the concept site.
  • The concept itself, on a phone or a laptop. Its buy buttons go to the real Hai Chai shop.

If it goes ahead

  1. Walk the owner through it and agree changes
  2. Swap concept images for final product photos
  3. Agree with the owner how it goes live
